Margaret A. Goerne Love, 85 of Belton, passed away Tuesday, May 23, 2023, with her children and other family by her side at St Luke™s East, Lee™s Summit. The body was cremated under the direction of Longview Funeral Home of Kansas City. She was a former resident of Laredo.
Margaret was born on November 6, 1937, in Muskogee, OK to Virgil and Johnnie Mae Childers Lancaster. Her parents divorced at a young age and she and her little sister and Mother moved to Phoenix, AZ where she would grow up across the street from Karl Goerne, who would become her husband on December 23, 1956, when they eloped to Carlsbad, NM.
They would welcome a son in 1958 and daughter in 1960 and within a few years they would move to the community of Maryvale. In 1971, the family would move to a farm east of Laredo.
Margaret was an accomplished seamstress, making all her daughters clothing when she was young and most of her own. One of her favorite pasttimes was crochet and playing Kings on the Corner cards and Bingo. Losing her sight to macular degeneration a few years ago didn™t stop her from many activities. She loved country music and would ask “Alexa” to play her music, especially Merle Haggard and his song “Okie from Muskogee”.
While residing in Phoenix she was home room mother for both her children and helped with Blue Birds (Camp Fire Girls) and Boys Scouts and Webelos. She and Karl were very involved in the PTA and Lions Club for many years. Camping trips nearly every weekend were the highlight of the family and they traveled to many of the National Parks in Arizona, Utah and surrounding states.
In 1984 Karl died after 27 years of marriage and in 1989 she married Donald Love Sr, who passed away in May 2012 after nearly 22 years of marriage.
Margaret is survived by her son, Kevin Goerne of Laclede; daughter, Mary Everitt and beloved son-in-law, Bob of Grandview; her much-loved step-children, Tammy Love, Patti Love, Julie Hows and Donnie Love; her grandsons, whom she was so proud of and loved deeply, Matthew Goerne, Christopher Hanes (Julie), Marty Goerne and Michael Goerne (Sydney); the absolute light of her life, her great-grandchildren, Loralie and Dalton Hanes, Naomi Goerne and Timberlynn Goerne; her beloved little brother, Chris Sugar (Verletta); and nieces and nephews.
In addition to her late husband™s, she was preceded in death by her beloved daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Goerne; and her sister, Sue Welch.
Graveside services will be held July 29, 2023 at Stucker Cemetery southwest of Laredo at 4pm with Brother Duane Campbell officiating.
